In the Minneapolis public schools, we are supposed to have 15 minutes to eat, which would be bad enough. But realistically we get only 10 to 11 minutes (we have been timing it). Having to rush to eat is part of the reason for the obesity epidemic, eating disorders, indigestion and kids not doing well in school. There is research that proves all of these points. Kids just need more time to eat at school.

Sometimes you just don't feel like yourself. Perhaps you have an illness, or you just don't feel good. Maybe you've lost your mojo and your motivation to do what you thought you loved to do. Your inspiration is gone, your career is on the wrong pathway or your life is at a standstill. Maybe you had a life changing experience that caused your world to tumble upside down. All the above is exactly how I felt over the past month. I am the most happy-go-lucky person I know. Nothing bothers me, nothing gets me down, but sometimes life takes you on a pathway you didn't expect and you are left looking at the man (woman) in the mirror! What does that mirror say back to you?

According to Gretchen Rubin, author of best-seller "The Happiness Project", "A New Year's resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to one or more lasting personal goals, projects, or the reforming of a habit."

Six weeks ago, my world as I knew it tumbled down around me as I sat and watched in horror. The life of this "Energizer Bunny/Superwoman” was about to change drastically. You see, I am a triathlete. I run, swim, bike, run adventure races, train, have my own business, work on my feet all day, a student, have two dogs, and I have a full social life. I sleep little and think all day. When this happened, all I could see was my world with NOTHING I enjoyed doing and a feeling of emptiness and fear, but instead I have been humbled by this experience. I learned to lean on other people when every bone in my body was so independent that each bone may work unhinged to the joint in which moves. The power of positive thinking and prayers spoken on my behalf from different parts of the country really do work. My goals in life have suddenly become more important. The things I have been putting off are now things I can't put off any longer. Most importantly I have learned the value of true friendship.

How often have you heard, "drink 64 ounces of water everyday?" Or perhaps "drink half your body weight in water each day?' Well, I have no idea what the magic number is. I just know that drinking plenty of water, staying hydrated and lessening your soda/teas/coffee beverages is proven to be a better option. We know that proper hydration is key, especially if you live in a hot climate. Your skin loves you, your joints love you, your digestive system loves you and your momma is happy because you did what the doctor told you. Not being an expert on the correct water consumption number I do know that trying to drink that magic number you have in your head can sometimes be difficult. Let's face it, water doesn't taste like a milkshake or we all would enjoy drinking well more than our body weight everyday.

This may come as a big shock to you, but I’m about as peaceful as a freight train. Hold on, hold on…that doesn’t quite encapsulate what I’m trying to say. That would be like saying that a broken arm only requires a band-aid. Let me try again: I’m as peaceful as two T-Rex’s battling in an action flick on a freight train that is derailing off of a bridge in between two mountains in the middle of a category 5 hurricane. I also like to exaggerate. I’m not sure if you noticed.
